ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To determine anxiety and depression frequency in residents from hospital centers during COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: A descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study was carried out from June to December 2020. Residents from hospitals of Secretary of Health, Puebla, were identified. The sample included 247 residents, who had an individual interview and answered a questionnaire through CEMEVI (Virtual Medical Center of High Specialty). RESULTS: 17 % of anxiety and 45 % of depression were reported. The most frequent age group was 26 to 31 years; 124 women and 123 men; anesthesiology, internal medicine and pediatrics were the medical specialties with greater depression; internal medicine and pediatrics were the medical specialties with greater anxiety. The risk factors for depression were anxiety (OR = 36.9), record of contact with COVID-19 patients (OR = 2.49 p = 0.035), and parental anxiety record (OR = 2.6, p = 0.009). The medical history of parents with anxiety was risk factor for anxiety (OR = 2.3, p = 0.031). CONCLUSIONS: Prevalence of depression and anxiety should alert to seek answers to the problem.

ABSTRACT

Background: Due to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, the mentoring programs of the competence centers for specialist training in family medicine nationwide were converted to digital formats. Acceptance of online implementation was evaluated on an ongoing basis. Methods: The study included the evaluations of the physicians in specia-list training participating in the mentoring program in Saxony, Hessen and Berlin from April to July 2020. In total, feedback from 135 mentees from 36 online mentoring sessions could be evaluated descriptively and content-analytically. The online mentoring meetings were evaluated by means of closed and open questions. Results: The online mentoring session were mainly evaluated positively. The participants are grateful for the opportunities for exchange even at times of limited contact. At the time of the survey, many physicians would like to have face-to-face meetings as soon as this is possible again. Conclusions: Networking and focused exchange in the context of mentoring sessions are possible online. In the course of the pandemic, the technical and didactic quality of the offers has improved. Follow-up studies should determine the extent to which online mentoring offers are a good addition to existing mentoring offers that is accepted by the target group and enables other mentees to participate. © Deutscher rzteverlag ;ZFA ;Zeitschrift fr Allgemeinmedizin.

ABSTRACT

This narrative-report presents the activities of the 13th Field Camp of Italian Emergency Psychologists which, due to the restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, was held remotely one year after the planned date, on 9 and 17 April 2021. The voluntary organisation Psicologi per i Popoli - Federazione (OdV), on the strength of the training experience of the Field Camps that since 2006 it has been planning and - together with the association Psicologi per i Popoli - Trentino (ODV) - it has been managing at the Centro di Addestramento della Protezione Civile in Marco di Rovereto, puts at the centre of this online event the theme of the training of emergency-urgency psychologists. This training should be accredited by means of a postgraduate specialisation that also legitimises access to the emergency and urgency services of the National Health Service through competitive exams. The article also presents the results of the groups' work in proposing guidelines for the definition of "operational models" for emergency intervention.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: From spring 2020, SARS-CoV2 began to spread worldwide, with what is now known as the first wave of the pandemic, starting in March 2020. This resulted in restructuring and shift of resources at many hospitals. The aim of our work was to detect the effects of the pandemic on the german Oto-Rhino-Laryngology (ORL) university hospitals in terms of research, student teaching and further specialist training. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The chairmen of the 39 ORL university hospitals in Germany were asked about the effects of the pandemic on research, student teaching and ORL specialist training (residency) in the period from March to April 2020 using a structured online survey. RESULTS: All 39 chairmen took part in the survey. Of these, 74.4% (29/39) stated that their research activities had deteriorated as a result of the pandemic. In 61.5% (24/39) pandemic-related research issues were addressed. All hospitals reported a restriction for in-house teaching and 97.5% (38/39) introduced new digital teaching methods. During the observation period, 74.4% of the chairmen did not see ORL specialist training (residency)at risk. CONCLUSION: Our results provide an insight into the heterogeneous effects of the pandemic. The fast processing of pandemic-related research topics and the introduction of innovative digital concepts for student teaching impressively demonstrates the great innovative potential and the ability of the ORL university hospitals to react quickly in order to maintain their tasks in research, student teaching and ORL specialist training in the best possible way even during the pandemic.
